the kiln is on...-6F, but not windy. clear sky.
10 mile winds will come a bit later this afternoon.
but a great day to fire.
all the safety checks done.
stack heated with a bernzomatic torch for
(clears the stack and makes sure the fumes
go up, not back. i have a tiny burner on all night...
again, melts the wax, heats the advancers shelves to 250F
and i want all the fumes from that firing out of the kiln..)
four fans turned on..air flow in the room perfect.
alarm clock set for one hour. large window in kiln room open half way.
all trash cleared from around the kiln and the floor
has been swept clean.
thermocouples and pilots work fine.
burners on full gas. heat will build fast.
like flying a plane...all checks done. same every
firing. nothing missed.
now for tea and toast.
read a bit.
check the kiln at 5 a.m.
start lite reduction about 6 a.m.
do it all the same very time.
never miss a step.
now have the entire day in front of me.
no schedule, no visitors, just me and the
kiln til it hits cone 11. and the down fire is done.
