I think the commonality has a lot to do with the fairly technical nature of these pursuits, combined with the need to share tools until one is advanced enough to own them. Most people in these disciplines start out in a shared studio or classroom with kilns, as they do with litho presses, etc, not independently acquiring such costly infrastructure until after some experience is attained, and this necessitates a communal ‘play nice together’ mentality. Those who can’t or won’t, tend not to stay in that medium.
