Did you read my posts about the origin of firing clay? The fired clay-lined basket theory is a very big stretch.

Here how I've always figured it: Women wove the first reed baskets to put things in; to carry, store and things.
They were porous though, and could only hold bigger solid things.
then, one of the women started putting clay in the basket as a liner.
This would hold more things, but wouldn't stand up to being wet.
One night, one of the men came home from a drunken Mastodon party and accidentally kicked one of the clay lined baskets into a big fire.
the next morning, one of the women had the germ of an idea.
and the rest is history.
