well, we have all been on pins and needles here, with yet another huge
fire burning all around us. I am not out of danger, as the river fire has
been stopped. it was aimed right at me last monday.
I had to evacuate my inventory twice this week, once to my friends studio
early last week, and again on Friday, when her studio was threatened, and
still is, although this morning it looks like it is slowing down, at least
in her direction. so most of my pots that are already paid for are in the
car and trailer, and ready to go at a moments notice.
we still have two months to go before rain, and october has been known
to be dry. I am leaving my important stuff in the car.
i am not normally a nervous person, as I generally just watch the river
flow. I am a first responder, and am trained to act first and react
later. so now it is later and getting to work in the studio is hard. I
find myself pacing around and then i have a good talk with myself and get
to work.
So all is well at the moment, looks like most of the county will get back
to business this coming week, with the eastern part of the county awaiting
the results todays ranch fire progress.
So you know, the River fire, which affected me, and the Ranch Fire are
two separate fires, named the mendocino complex. kind of confusing really,
because the river fire is effectively out, and the ranch fire is roaring up
in the woods above the lake. the east side of the lake is threatened now,
but it seems to be slowing down today. cross your fingers.
also, be aware, (rant time now), that news organizations show the most
horrifying pictures of the fire regardless of what is happening on the
ground now. It is often inaccurate, and deceiving, and frankly
irresponsible. So beware, and take the pictures with a grain of salt. I
learned this through my experience with the Valley Fire two and a half
years ago, when they showed Middletown in flames for a week, when it was
only for one day.
So we dodged yet another fire up here on the mountain. we have a
perimeter now all around us that has been burned. Might be a good thing.
that's it for now. will be in touch.
