So is the difference related  to how much the glaze moves?  And since size does matter what mesh Silicon Carbide?  

Never seen local reduction get even close to the best reduced reds. Of course most reduced reds today don't even get close to the beauty of the old Chinese reds. My two cents for what it's worth
