    The 1st s Session of World Ceramic Teapot Art Competition


    Yixing has been developed in to a teapot making town for several hundred years after the long history of verity ceramic productions. Through half-century’s development of modern ceramics, the teapot making progresses to a new classification which emphasis on both functionality and no-practical sculpture.
    In 2001 and 2005, Yixing successfully held the events of “International Ceramic Culture and Art Seminar & Ceramic Exhibition” respectively. Yixing is known as “The Center of Teapot Making of the World”. The 10th Session of China Yixing International Ceramic Culture and Art Festival will be held in October 2019. IAC and Yixing will invite the ceramicist from around the world to attend “The World Ceramic Teapot Art Competition” which is expected to provide a platform to facilitate ceramic culture exchange between Yixing and the world, to promote the world ceramic culture all together.
    The 1st s Session of World Ceramic Teapot Art Competition is open to all sorts of teapots with various artistic style and cultural background, including the innovated ceramic teapots embodying whether concrete concept or nonobjective idea, no matter the narrative literature works or decorative ones.

    Specifications for Submitted Works
    1. Each contestant supplies at most 2 pieces works (each piece must contents ceramic material at 50% or more).
    2. No single side of the work may exceed 50 cm.
    3. The work must be completed in 2015 and later and never been selected or awarded in any competition before.

    The theme of this contest is “pot” (especially referring to the vessels made of ceramics with handle, spout and lid) that is made of clay. No limit to molding and decoration technology.

    Entry qualifications
    Ceramists from all over the world are welcome to register. There are no restrictions on nationality, age, or status. Participants working collectively are requested to designate one person as representative (and to attach the name list of their group).

    Awards and obligations
    (1) Awards:
    A. Grand Prize (for one piece): 60,000RMB (About 9,000USD. the artwork purchase fees is included).
    B. Gold Prize (for two pieces): 30,000RMB each (About 4,480USD. the artwork purchase fees is included).
    C. Silver Prize (for five pieces): 15,000RMB each (About 2,240USD. the artwork purchase fees is included).
    D. Bronze Prize (for ten pieces): 6000RMB each (About 900USD. the artwork purchase fees is included).
    E. Prize of excellence (for 30 pieces): each winner will receive a certificate of the award.
    F. Selected works (250 pieces): a certificate of selection.
    G. Each prize winner and selected work recipient will receive a copy of the publication of this biennale.
    (2) Travel Expenses:
    Those who lives more than 1,000 kilometers away from Yixing and choose to deliver their artworks may receive a transportation fee reimbursement of RMB 1200 and a five-day accommodation from the organizer.
    (3) Obligations:
    A. All monetary prizes are subject to tax withholding in accordance to applicable tax laws (20%) of the People’s Republic of China.
    B. The rights of the works of the Grand Prize, Gold prize, Silver Prize, and Bronze Prize Awards shall become the property of the Yixing Municipal People’s Government.

    August 15th, 2019, the results of accepted artworks will be published on the Yixing Ceramic Professional Association’s website. The selected artists also be will notified by the email.
    September 15, 2019, the artworks must arrived.
    D. The names of the jury committee members will be announced later.

    Final Selection (for the exhibition)
    A. Preparation of delivery: Upon notification of entry to the final selection stage, the participant should begin the preparatory work prior to the designated delivery period. The enclosed label should be affixed to the work, which should then be wrapped in suitable packing material with a note of any special installation requirements. The participant is responsible for shipping insurance and ensuring that the work arrives intact. A separate notice containing all relevant details will be sent to the participant.
    B. Any package causes difficulty due to late delivery of the work shall have his or her work withdrawn from the competition and all the fees incurred have to be covered by the participant.
    C. October 10 to October 14, 2019, the selected artworks should be sent or delivered to the designated site.

    Shipping damage and insurance
    A. Participants are responsible for any damage or loss incurred prior to the works arriving at the appointed location. Please insure your works if necessary.
    Please insure the artworks with reasonable value. The import tax will be occurred based the insurance value that will be responsible of the participants.
    B. Unpacking and inspection of items will be carried out after arriving. If damages occur, the extent of the damage will be reported to the participants. The undertaker will not be held responsible for damage or loss due to natural disasters or other unavoidable circumstances.

    Final Awards selection
    October 18th 2019, the result of the final awards selection will be announced at the opening ceremony of the exhibition of “The World Ceramic Teapot Art Competition, and meanwhile be published on the IAC and Yixing Ceramic Professional Association’s website at www.jstaoxie.com. All winners will be informed by email.

    Return of work (either of the following two options)
    Participants should reply before the end of November 2019.
    A. In person: Participants who wish to retrieve their works in person.
    B. By agency: Participants who choose this option are requested to send a letter of authorization to this effect.
    January 1st , 2020, the undertaker is scheduled to handle the return of participants’ works. The undertaker will bear the freight costs.

    The undertaker will be responsible for the insurance of the artwork starting from its arrival in the appointed location, until it leaves the exhibition or the return deadline is passed. The insurance amount shall not exceed 30,000RMB (About 4,480USD) for each item.

    Please note
    (1) No request of return, removal, or replacement of any selected work is allowed during the process of review and exhibition.
    (2) All participants must confirm that any work submitted to the competition is their own original work that the work does not violate any copyright. In the event of any breach of the above commitments, the undertaker reserves the right to rescind a winner’s prize and claim restitution of the monetary award in addition to the return of the trophy and certificate of award.
    (3) The undertaker shall handle the issues relating to the exhibition and publication of the works at its sole discretion.
    (4) By submitting the entry form, a participant shall be deemed as having given consent to authorize the undertaker to use his or her work without any reimbursement within the scope required for exhibition and relevant activities. The scope of authorization includes exhibition, translation, publishing and promotion activities of the award-winning and selected works, especially social media, too, – without charges for text and photos .
    (5) All participants who have submitted entry forms and works shall agree to be bound by the provisions set out in this invitation.
    (6) For matters not included in the rules, amendment may be made upon review and approval of the undertaker, and then announced.
