I have used shellac on mug bottoms; dries quickly but requires a wipe after
applying glaze because the shellac does not repell the water carrying the
glaze. Liquid school glue also seals the surface but have no data on
repelling the glaze slurry. Have used artist oil painting medium but
drying time is long. Adding a “drier” might work; never got that far in
my trials. Tried olive oil, repelled the water but the slurry was trapped
in the pores.
