Misc thoughts...
Why flat? Keep the polygonal base plan. Cut and weld an angle frame. Cut
each triangular facet a little long so you get a few inches of rise.
Mix materials. AKA put rigid board on the outside to carry the structural
load and button high temp fiber on the inside for heat load.
I built a door for a friend's kiln with kaowool buttoned to furnace board
insulation.
The boards were an APGreen product no longer available.
Rock wool can be a good backup insulation below red heat. I'd be curious if
these boards plus an inch or 2 of fiber would be adequate... about $10
 each...
