I think you're missing factors like two parents both working hard (and the
educated ones both wanting to work - let alone the poor families where
everyone has to work 3 part time jobs to make ends meet). The (thankful)
demise of the 1950s housewife had as much to do with the loss of communal
dining as "TV dinners".
