Thank you Ron for your timely reminder for folks
to realize that Marian is not "showing off" her
glaze tests. She is a teacher, she wants you all
to learn that there are many ways to fire pots.
(She is a world renown expert in silica and melting
quality of glaze. (two MIT Ph.D's.)
Long cooling cycles change glazes dramatically.
Down firing at 1900f, can change glazes for the better.
As Ron has indicated I fire faster than most other
potters..."To Save Fuel". It does mean that I fire
a bit hotter, less time, and adore down firing.
We are not "breaking the rules". We are adapting to
modern times with new knowledge of the timing of firing clay.
Industry has shown the way, why not look, try and see what happens.
I REPEAT, RON AND JOHN'S BOOK IS NOT A `RECIPE BOOK`, IT IS A GLAZE
AND CLAY BOOK, IT IS A LIFE CHANGING TEACHING BOOK.
If you are happy with your cone 6 electric firing schedule and the
pots it makes..."glory in it".
If you are looking for adventure in your ceramic life, try new things.
My vision of hell is making white mugs for the rest of my life.
