Opposite to slow cooling
This reminds me of the time I was in a Chinese blue and white studio in China. They turned off the kiln while I was there. They then immediately opened the kiln door. It was spectacular. The heat radiated across the room. The pinging of the pieces while they were exposed to the ambient temperature was loud. They closed the kiln up after about 5 minutes. I asked why they opened the kiln, knowing the possibility of loss. The response was to increase the clarity of the glaze. I again mentioned the possible loss, and was told that the pieces lost were not worthy, so nothing was lost.
