Thanks to Ron Roy for providing information I needed proceed with information on bisque firing. I’ll be re-firing all the pieces to ^05 bisque. Also thanks to David Woof for the recommendation for making a plywood for the top of the kiln for specifically changing elements while “protecting” the top bricks. I had in the past cut pieces of cardboard for the two edges that were used, and put some scrap pieces of a quilt for cushioning. However, while loading in the past these would slip off the edge, potentially damaging the pieces being loaded. I tried to clamp them in place, but it was in the way.
Now I have a great supplement, cut by my personal studio tech (my husband, Alan) in the exact shape of the octagonal top, with lugs to keep it from slipping (thanks, David) to safely load and unload my kiln without further damaging the bricks. The test will come when the new elements are installed!
Once again, ClayArt comes to the rescue!
