Hi Snail -
I am not aware of any comprehensive world ceramics surveys that have been
done in the last 30 years, and I'd be interested if you find something. The
best one I have, which claims to cover the period from 4000 BC to the
present, is "Ceramics of the World," by Lorenzo Camuso and Sandro Bortone.
It was published in 1991 and didn't do a very good job on "to the present"
even then, but the historical coverage is good and all images are in color.
I expect that used copies are available for reasonable prices.

Subject: [Clayart] books on ceramics history

Hey! I was asked recently to recommend a good general survey book on
ceramics history. Embarrassingly, I was caught a little flat-footed! I have
not kept up with what books are currently available on the topic, and which
are worthwhile. (One with some discussion of methods and technical
development - not just aesthetic art-historical trends - would be nice, if
anyone has bothered to write one!) Any suggestions?

-Snail
