I used to use a commercial latex for much the same purpose but it really
became clumpy and nasty. A local supplier said they didn't carry it but to
use latex caulk! I've done that with some success. I thin latex caulk with
water and india ink (for color). It works fairly well but not as well as
super fresh commercial latex I originally used. I would love to find some
commercial latex that didn't get all clumpy and nasty to the point that you
could not effectively thin it. For either the commercial version or the
latex caulk the liquid soap on your brush really helps!
